I have come across another kind of site adviser called linkscanner
lite.As we all want to stay safe on the web I think knowing before entering is a good idea.I allready have wot and MCafee site advisor but like to cross reference.I have downloaded a freeware version and want to know if any of you know of any problems with it.I scanned it with avast on download and it was o.k.I also looked up some references on the web and that seems o.k.It seems o.k. as am using it.See how it goes.
I use their manual check function for suspect sites/files, it doesn’t seem to find much, http://linkscanner.explabs.com/linkscanner/default.aspx. So I don’t know how effective the linkscanner lite would be.
I also use the DrWeb Link Checker, it is a firefox add-on that gives right click context menu scan function for a link.
I think a third scanner will be an overkill, imho.
WOT and SiteAdvisor will be enough. Remember that WebShield will scan the links when you open also.
Be weary. If you linkscanner, and it scans a malicious page. Avast! might think that a virus is trying to download and want’s you to abort connection just from doing a google search. I’ve had this happen to me. Although it wouldn’t infect you in the first place.
Like what others said, a third scanner is a bit overkill. I’ve found link scanner, to slow down your computer a bit from constantly scanning websites.
The thing is with me is I have got involved with wot because its community based and not linked to google or yahoo or any other company I know of.I do a lot of site checking, and if I check out a site not checked out by wot all I can rely on is site advisor. So having another option, even though it slows me down perhaps a tad, nothing noticable its worth it to me.And all are free so if I find one not very good or annoying I can just dump it.I will have lost nothing.Anyway thanks for the input lads.Codhead. :).
cod head, you can test www.k9webprotection.com and block the malware and other categories to improve safety.
You can also block using OpenDNS.com for your DNS server, using its dashboard you can set various categories that you don’t want visited.
Thanks tech and David.I will take a look at them.
:).
You’re welcome.
OpenDNS is one of the best things you can use to improve both safety and speed:

Up to now I have got that K9 that tech mentioned and also downloaded vista firewall control that I found in a thread here.I have set them both up and was surprised and happy how easy both were to install.I will take a look at that open dns to.I feel a lot more secure allready.I feel more like surfing in a armoured car now,a very fast one though. Thanks to all of you. ;D.
cod head, K9 could give you more than only security ![]()
I personally found K9 too restrictive and wound up uninstalling it after a short test run. ![]()
Howdy folks,
I am quite charmed by the workings of finjan combined with Wot, and to check individual links on demand online I use the Dr Web anti-virus link checker plug-in for both IE and Fx,
polonus
Remove (uncheck) the categories you seem to be too restrictive. It’s very configurable ![]()
I am happy with it tech, like you say you can configure it.Also my wife uses this computer and she as just started,so i do not have to watch over her so much.K9 does it for me.Of course I am in the background, but I do not worry so much. ;).
