Linux avast! without skins

why cant i use windows skins in linux avast! ?! it isnt fair !!!

:frowning: aww, it’s not fair. ::slight_smile:

Life is not fair. There aren’t skins for Linux version.
Anyway, don’t cry. Avast version 5 for Windows won’t be a skinnable application anymore

the GUIs are completely different - different dialogs, different layout, different technology. Creating one “universal skin” would be quite complex (and in most cases, Linux users can live without this feature).

On the bright side I was pleasantly surprised that I could install Avast! for Linux on PCLinuxOS . I had tried Clam Av which is in the pclos Repository , but it was a dismal failure , didn’t surprise me really ::slight_smile:
As a newbie to GNU/Linux , although they swear there aren’t any major threats of infection , it is reassuring to see the blue ball with an “a” in it on my desktop . Even though the GUI is , … well awful ;D

Hi, the gui for avast! isn’t really that bad if you compare it others av.
A few examples:
AVG : http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1046212
Clam(posted by me when using Xandros): http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1041096
Fprot: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1064999

The AVG GUI is much nicer: in keeping with the Ubuntu theme.

Please note that there are 500+ distinct Linux distributions, not only Ubuntu (fortunately) :).

I suspect that the Debian package is also in keeping with other Debian derivatives. Really just a question of background colour, layout and font, so not really that specific to Ubuntu.

And grey is soooo 1990’s. ::slight_smile:

In fact I like it without fancy gui. After all it is a tool and no desktop candy or something…

I have to agree with nyarnon , it is a tool , just a stripped down version of Avast! , and I don’t think I’ll really be using it that much anyhow ;D
It’s funny how much attention the Avast! GUI get’s , it’s either too weird , or not enough
( If and when I do need to clean an infection I will be grateful to have it of course  )
