hi,
My another computer doesn’t connect the internet, how can I update the virusbase of avast! Linux Home Edition.
I can’t find the virusbase of linux to download. There is only
avast! 4.x VPS update for windows.
help !!!
Maybe you can copy 400.vps file from an updated avast installation to a USB stick and transfer it to the \Data folder of the off-line computer. I’m not sure about the location of it in Linux. Now I’m on Vista but I use Kubuntu also.
Hallo, the location is files.avast.com/files/latest/400.vps - just get the file.
Then, use avastvpsreload to install it “on the fly”, or just quit avast, replace your old 400.vps with the new file, and start avast again. The new database would be accepted.
My Avast installation did seem to accept the new 400.vps file but avastgui does not show the virus database as having been updated. Also avastvpsreload is nowhere to be found. How can I get avastgui to show that the database has been updated? I have FC4 linux.
So, it would seem that the new 400.vps file not only needs to replace the main 400.vps file at /usr/lib/avast4workstation/var, but also one installed in a .avast directory under the home directory for the avast user as well (e.g. /root/.avast if root is the user using avast). Now, my avast does recognize and show the updated database.
