List of problems i am expiriencing...

ok so right now i am trying to revive my brothers computer, which was INFECTED up the wazoo. i already did the boot cleaning thing, and got most of the trojans outta there, but i am still getting issues. first when i start up Windows (xp) i get a baloon telling me that i have no antivirus installed, even though Avast is obviously there and installed. another problem i am facing is the cross circle thingy by the Avast logo, which i don’t really know what it means but i knnow its not good. my final problem is that i can send any virus’s to the chest. i get the error: “Virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed.” so i looked that up ad got a couple hits here, but nothing really explained it clearly to me. i recently uninstalled AVG, and it was hardly functioning, meaning it didn’t want to scan anything. so ya thats my beef, please help me! it would be a shame to have to format after all the work i’ve done!!! and thanks.

b Avast’s red slash sign[/b]

-= You should consider running AVG Removal Tool to get rid of remnants of AVG that might be causing conflict with avast…

b Avast is not detected by Security Center[/b]

b Others[/b]

-= If you want to check more thoroughly if any infection is still left… You may try Malwarebytes Antimalware… Download, install, update & scan…

-= We would also be glad to check your Trend Micro Hijack This log…

used the avg removal tool, what now?

That didnt help for some reason, i still get the signal…

i already have malewarebytes, and its running now, should i get the other one?

ok so for the second topic i figured out a way to shut Windows Security Center up, its just not gonna tell me when i need to upate. but i think it might have a connection to problems 1 and 3 respectively

-= We might probably be able to root out the problem with the help of a Hijack This log…

-= For the red sign, you may try Repair function of avast via Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast! antivirus → Change/Remove → Scroll down to see a Repair button…

well i already tried uninstalling/reinstalling da program but i will try and repair it anyway, no harm doing that. I got the program, where do i post the log?

Here’s another thing i posted in another forum, but was asked to moved it here, so i will.

i have a suspicion that this might be my problem…

-= AAVM blabla… is commonly caused by remnants of previous antivirus or a conflicting installlation of another program…

where do i post the log?

-= Attach it instead… Just click additional options when you start a reply…

As you’ve used the AVG removal tool, if a repair does not work you may have to do a complete re-install

You didn’t say how you uninstalled/reinstalled

If needed, try this:

*** It is probably a good idea to download the newest version of avast before starting this***

To post the log either copy/past the text (may take multiple posts) or attach the text file to the post using the ‘additional options’ section.

Heres the log, i did not install from a disk the first time…

I dont know if this is any help but i got this log from the avg remover tool

b Firewall[/b]
You are using Windows XP Firewall… XP Firewall does not provide Outbound Protection… Enhance your protection by installing a firewall with Outbound Protection… Examples are:

PCTools, Online Armor, Agnitum Outpost [all these are available at download.cnet.com]

b Suspicious Entries[/b]

O4 - HKCU..\Run: [AnvTrgr] “C:\Program Files\AnvTrgrsoftware\AnvTrgr.exe”
I suggest that you send anvtrgr.exe to VirusTotal and tell us about the findings… It seems like this can be a form of infection: CA Antivirus Labs

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: sdters.dll
I suggest that you send sdters.dll to VirusTotal too… This has been said to be a malware according to PrevX: PrevX

b Deactivated Unnecessary Entries That Can Be Fixed[/b]

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {3B8FB116-D358-48A3-A5C7-DB84F15CBB04} - hXXp://www.iexplorersecurity.com/redirect.php (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Explorer Security - {3B8FB116-D358-48A3-A5C7-DB84F15CBB04} - htXXp://www.iexplorersecurity.com/redirect.php (file missing)

1: should i do anything before installing a new firewall? are ther going to be conflicts between the windows one and another?

2: 04-HKCU… fir some reason i cant find this program in the program files

020 - Appinit… where do i find this file for upload?

By the way thanks a lot guys for going out of your way for me

It will generally be in the system32 folder

The windows firewall should be disabled by your new one

it wasnt in the system 32 folder

then use the SEARCH function of windows

U are a great help…

You forget about Comodo firewall, wich is the best.Period.
