Little help please

I downloaded AVAST a week ago and have found that since that time I am unable to view Adaobe Flash when it is used on websites such as MLB.com, in addition 95% of the videos on you tube are unviewable, this issue has only surfaced sinve using avast. Pre avast there was no issue. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

avast doesn’t block flash or anything els, it scans and alerts to infection but doesn’t block.

I am able to view flash when I enable it as I have it disabled using firefox and NoScript.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Edit: The site appears to be undergoing some sort of maintenance, so I don’t know if that has something to do with it also.

thanks for the reply i had mcafee for about a year but got rid of it using YOUR UNINSTALLER when it missed several trojans during scans.

Well it isn’t our uninstaller, just that we have links for removing stubborn remnants which can cause conflicts.

I take it you mean you used one of those:

2007 version - http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Also see - How do I uninstall SecurityCenter? http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=71525

This is one of the most common cause of apparent blocking (conflict) as one AV tries to scan the file it is locked by remnants of an other.

What is your firewall ?
Have you any other security software installed ?

Sorry when i said your uninstaller i meant the name of the program is “YOUR UNINSTALLER”. i have no other AV on my computer and my firewall is the generic windows firewall

I would try the specific uninstall tool from McAfee for your product.

What is your OS ?
The windows firewall shouldn’t be an issue, if XP it doesn’t have outbound protection, if Vista, the outbound protection is disabled by default.

Whilst the windows firewall is usually good at keeping your ports stealthed (hidden) it provides no outbound protection and you should consider a third party firewall.

Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (sensitive or otherwise, user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.
