LKLOGSCANEXE.EXE detected as a trojan all-of-a-sudden ????

Hello,

there is a utility named LKLOGSCANEXE.EXE that resides on my PC since years, I never used it (I never ran it) on my PC as it is an Exchange Server tool. It is on my PC just as a safety copy.

All-of-a-sudden, this tool was detected as a Trojan “Win32:Shellbot [trj]” by my Avast Home !

Was this tool added to the Trojan list recently ? If yes, why ?
If no, how can I check by how it was infected ?

The product web site is http://www.lklogscan.com .

Thanks for your help

Eric

its most likely a false positive.

If you have it in the chest, you can extract it onto your desktop or someplace you can easily access. Then go to virustotal.com and upload the file to this site. It will check the file with many AV scanners and give you a result. If many other AV’s also say it is infected, then it prolly is (in this case, right click and scan the file with avast and either remove it or quarantine it again). If only one or two say it is harmful, then it may be a false positive.

If it is a false positive, please send the file in a password protected zip as an attachment in an email to virus@avast.com with the password for the file in the text of the email. Put false positive/undetected malware in the subject.

I’m not an advast admin, but this is pretty much their standard procedure for false positives. I figured i would save them some time.

Thanks for your help !

I think also that it is a false positive.

As it is not very important for me but could cause trouble to seceral companies using Avast and LKLOGSCAN products, I will send it as you explained to Avast.

Thanks again

Eric

Well,

it was probably a false positive as latest signatures version does no more detect this file as infected !

Avast is the best !
