Use WOT, Google first about a program, use Adblock Plus, check here first…
It seems a little sluggish on first impressions.
OK could you run a fresh OTL scan for me to check, I may need to reset your net connections later
Here’s the OTL log.
Also, I have three other problems:
-
I downloaded NoScript from that page you recommended - but its causing all sorts of problems - I have to ok almost every page even if I know full well they’re legitimate. Can I safely get rid of NoScript?
-
I downloaded ERUNT from that page you recommended - but its asking me all the time to back up - I’ve tried getting rid of it but I haven’t been able to.
-
I downloaded Private Firewall (recommended) - but its extremely sensitive, it asks allow/block questions all the time. Can I go back to Windows Firewall or is there a more user friendly one?

This is while the programme is in learning mode http://browsers.about.com/od/48/gr/noscript.htm

Uninstall via add/remove if not required

Again this is in learning mode, as time progresses you will hardly notice it

How is the net connection behaving ?
Its ok.
I can’t find ERUNT in add/remove programs though so I don’t know how to get rid of it.
For ERUNT download the exe version from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/erunt/
Once done then there will be a control panel uninstall entry
Uninstall from the control panel
Thanks.
Btw, how can i get rid of the windows update files - there are loads again?
With XP manual deletion is the only option
It goes as far as “aspnet.mst”, says it can’t delete this and then the whole process stops.
No, the weirdly named files windows update created.
Do you have CCleaner on your system as I believe that may delete those files
Yes, I’ll give it a try.
I did what you said with ERUNT, but its still there and its causing problems - freezing the computer etc. Initially I had downloaded the zipped version, but I also did what you said - downloading the full package and uninstalling it but its still problematic, even more so than before in fact.
That is intriguing as it is not showing in the list of startup programmes, do you have revo uninstaller ?
Yes I do, it doesn’t appear in revo either though. It is possible its not ERUNT, but I think it is. The next time it pops up I’ll screenshoot it and post the picture up.
Could you screenshot the warning when it appears
