I ran a boot time scan yesterday and it found several infected files which, I believe, are all false positives. In almost all occurrences, the only action allowed by the interface was “Ignore”. The infected files had long names and complicated locations which I could not possibly write on a piece of paper; where can I find a log of that scan and research more about these (probably) false positives?
You can find the boot scan log in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report\aswboot.txt
There have been lots of reports about False positives lately, so maybe you are right, but first you may want to upload the files to VirusTotal.Com, to see if only avast! detects the malware in the files. If the files are indeed False detected you can send them to virus@avast.com in password protected archive, in the mail body write the archive password and for mail subject write “False Positive”
Great; thanks! I found the log file and I am going through the “infected” files.
Many of these “infected” files are part of my Vodafone mobile connect card software (and this is not the first time that Avast finds suspicious files there: see this thread on another forum).
The first file, SpOrder.Dll is infected by Win32:Adware-gen according to Avast. I ran that file through Virustotal, and sure enough, Avast is the only one that sees a virus there. So I would like to report that finding to Avast as suggested. However I am unable to zip or copy that file :-[ Mhhh… what to do next?
Meanwhile, as a workaround, add the false positive (which seems in this case…) to the Standard Shield exclusion list.
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize. Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
