log files

My System; dual core pentium, 2 gig ram, win xp pro sp3 (32 bit), comodo free firewall, avast free 8.0.1482, virus db 130312-0.

After running a full scan, I see several entries in the log file that don’t make sense to me such as;
F:\adobe\install_reader10_en_air_mssd_aih.exe|>images\bgBody.png [E] Archive is password protected. (42056) - this an install file for an older version of Adobe Reader - not password protected. There are a number of entries with the same path/ base file name.
F:\winzip\winzip81.exe|>SETUP.WZ|>WINZIP32.EX_ [E] Archive is password protected. (42056)
F:\winzip\winzip90_sr1.exe|>SETUP.WZ|>WINZIP32.EX_ [E] Archive is password protected. (42056)
F:\winzip\winzipdb license.exe|>SETUP.WZ|>WINZIP32.EX_ [E] Archive is password protected. (42056)
F:\mp4-player\BroherSoft_Mp4PlayerSetup4.0.zip|>BroherSoft_Mp4PlayerSetup4.0.exe [E] Archive is password protected. (42056)

All these files are to install an application. How can they be seen as password protected? What does (42056) mean? What does [E] mean?

Thanks,

Mike

What does (42056) mean?
avast error code = 42056 AVAST_PACK_ENCRYPTED

anyway, files that can not be scanned are just that…it does not mean they are infected
avast just give you a scan error report and the reason why

You almost answered your own question. Password protected file are protected by their authors to protect their copyright.
Since they are install files they have every right to protect their work from hackers and others. :slight_smile:

FYI…avast password protects their software. 8)
