Thanks,
I do not see this problem when I make the same selection.
Can you please advise us of the full version of avast (build) you are using (from “About avast”) and your operating system?
4.8.1296
XP Pro SP2
Check this link, please - and if it helps, please answer my question posted there.
I added the SunbeltKPFHack=2 line to the .ini file and it did not resolve the problem. Do you still want the open processes screenshot? If so, I can PM.
Also, is there any danger/negative associated with leaving the SunbeltKPFHack=2 line in that .ini file or should I delete and return to its earlier state?
Thanks,
Did you boot after that? (sorry, did you save the avast4.ini file after the modification). Just trying to guess if anything failed in the process…
Yes I did and the modified avast4.ini was saved.
When I am forced to close the Log Viewer (End Task from within Task Manager), it indicates “The system cannot end this program because it is waiting for a response from you” Of course, selecting “End Now” then closes the Log Viewer window.

No, there is any danger. It’s just a display correction, nothing more. Let it there.
I had the same problem, and I found the solution here : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=37609.msg315764#msg315764
for me, there’s McAfee SiteAdvisor who was blocking it. before I fix the problem I had to end the process of McAfee and the logview immediately appeared.
try to find out which program is blocking the logviewer.
Unfortunately I have not had Kerio, McAfee, ZA, or any other software firewall other than the native Windows XP one on my machine.
have you tried to repair the installation?
or maybe old fashioned solution with uninstaller tool then reinstall will work.
I haven’t had the time to fool around with repairs, uninstalls, and the like. I switched from AVG several months ago as that product had become unstable, resource-consuming, and flaky. I hope Avast is not headed in that direction. I, like many, just want an A/V product to work effectively and all the time in the background without manual intervention required.
it’s not enough to remove AVG from add/delete programmes, because it doesn’t remove completely from your system.and may cause such your problem or your system to be unstable, too.
you’d better use “YOUR ININSTALLER” to track down the registry keys of AVG which still exists, and the files, too.
you’re likely to find a folder belonging to AVG in PROGRAM FILES path.
If it helps, AVG Remover download here: http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-tools
I had actually used Revo Uninstaller. I presume it works similarly to the product you reference.
Thanks. I used it earlier just in case there was a lingering remnant or two.
You’re welcome. But, I suppose, we cannot finish troubleshooting, can we? Is Log viewer still freezing?
Indeed it is still freezing when the “Settings” selection is chosen.
Settings? Where is this option?
