Login Problem with Avast

Just changed my ADSL ISP and finding that when I boot up the PC a red cross appears through the AVAST Logo.If I don’t right click Avast and then click on ‘on-access protection control’ immediately and before programmes have finished loading, the system freezes and I have to shut down and try again. Any advice to solve problem would be appreciated. Am using Windows XP Home edition.

Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Done all that including uninstall and re-install and problem was worse when I reinstalled, did not have sufficient time to click on the Avast logo for online protection before system froze. Eventually managed to get into control panel quick enough to remove Avast again so now not installed. Confirm using XP home edition and at time of Avast installation and operation no other virus protection programmes installed or running.

Have you ever had any other AV installed, if so what ? Some have a habit of leaving remnants behind, which can cause issues.

All sorted now thanks

What did you do that sorted it ?
