I’ve been unable to log on to the forum, I believe since the forum design changed, unless using IE. If trying in Firefox it says “an error has occurred…you were unable to log on. Check your cookie settings”, which are set to “allow”. No problems with other sites. Works OK in Firefox if I open the tab using IE rendering.
Anyone know the reason? And the fix?
EDIT
Additionally, having requested a new password, received the email, and clicked on the link, the error window says “the user whose profile you are trying to view does not exist”.
Tech,
I have “no script” in Firefox, but it is configured to allow Avast (and all other bookmarked links). “Google analytics” is the site being blocked when on the Avast forum, but allowing that makes no difference. I only have the one logon.
DavidR
Comodo firewall, been using it for months, no problem there, I think. Case sensitive was the first thing I checked. Having made that mistake before, the message that then comes up is to do with "invalid credentials.
Think I should try disabling “no script”? As I said, it’s not a problem with any other site.
Thankyou for the replies. I clicked the link in the email notification of same, and Firefox opened logged on. It seems the problem is intermittent. (It happened before, about a week ago, but “came right” then, too. I have no clue why). I manage my cookies in CCleaner, still using the same one. Currently “google-analytics.com” is blocked in “no script”. Everything seems ok.
I know, of course, that things don’t just “come right” with computers, there’s always something changes. In this case, the only event has been a restart.
So. Fingers crossed. If it happens again, should I post to this thread?
I don’t know if you can exclude some cookies in ccleaner, if so forum.avast.com is I guess the one that needs to be kept. I usually have cookies excluded from the likes of ccleaner, I use ClearProg and manage my cookies using firefox, tools options, privacy.
I’m using XP and hadn’t logged in for for a bit and had a “User ID (something like that) doesn’t exist” come up when I tried to log on.
I used a reply on the confirmation message from a few years ago and asked admin for help, but then tried to reregister and was told somebody already had that User ID.
Don’t know if admin helped, but then I could log on. No reply from admin, but I reckon he’s a bit too busy.
And when I tried to reregister I had one heck of a hard time reading that “Are you a human?” script thingy – you know, where there are letters in the box you must type in. I had to use a magnifying glass to read those letters, and my eyesight is good. If you had somebody who was even partially color blind I do not think they would be able to pass that test. That really needs to have just a bit more contrast.
What I was trying to state in my post above was that the presently used program here on avast!webforum is very unfriendly to those that may be partially color blind, or possibly just older folks that really can’t see so well.
I have rather good eyesight, yet still found myself using a magnifying glass after I couldn’t read the characters about three times.
Now this language isn’t loose, so is there anyone here that might be able to relate to what I’m stating?
Thank you, but this is really only for those that may have given up trying to get past that stage of the sign-up process and moved on to some other place or way to get answers to their questions. And those they may have trouble in the future. Avast is good stuff, but a bit of sympathy for those with poor eyesight might be nice, yes?
I understood your first post as I believe will many others, unfortunately I’m not in a position to be able to do anything about it as an avast user like yourself.
The captcha/Captua feature you are talking of is designed to make it difficult for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) programs to read, unfortunately that very function will as you say make it difficult for those with a visual impairment.
I guess that there are different captcha/Captua fonts and contrasts/colours but that has to be first seen and recognised by the forum admins and changed if possible. Perhaps the inclusion of two different styles, font sizes instead of one or if it is possible to include a sound file.
Perhaps to get seen this should be in a post of its own, with a more specific subject title “Visual Impairment - Accessibility - Login Access to Forums”
My apologies if that post seemed condescending, DavidR. I’ve been told in the past on other forums that my style is strange, so I thought I’d get straight for a bit.
I’d thought about starting a thread, but it’s not really much of a discussion point. I was just trying to get a mod squad member to notice and they can take it from there.
Your post didn’t seem condescending to me, apologies aren’t required and the General forum is the most relevant place for this as it is directly related to the forums ‘accessibility’ and a request doesn’t require discussion, so the moderators may not see this almost buried in another topic (although slightly related).
Confirming and agreeing with David. Use your browsers to manage your cookies. Erase your cookies for avast in all non-browser applications, and start over. This should avoid any conflicts, intermittent or not.
Also, my NoScript settings are the same as yours. I allow avast, and exclude Google Analytics. Everything is working fine for me, so that should not be a problem.
Thanks mauserme, I tried that and the audio was clear for me, but I also clicked the Having trouble link and it downloaded the .wav file so you could tweak it further if necessary.
It’s just started happening again. Can log on in IE, not in Firefox. Firefox is set to allow cookies, in Ccleaner the Avast cookie/s are whitelisted.
I don’t get a “you’ve forgotten your password” message, or “Not a valid password/username” (which I’ve seen before when typing too fast), I get a “an error haas occurred. check your cookie settings” message.
