Logon problems

I have recently installed Avast 4 after removing NAV…everything is much quicker now…that’s the good!

Unfortunately now when I go to log on to my internet banking, nothing happens. I click the log in button and…nothing!!

I have tried all sorts of settings in privacy and that sort of thing, but have got nowhere…HELP!!

First of all, be sure Norton is gone…

  1. Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Symantec removal tool following the three steps defined in the SymNRT tool info.
  3. Boot.
  4. Install avast! Boot.

Then, which browser are you using?
Does your bank uses secure connection? HTTPS
Do you have a popup killer or any other application that could block you normal browsing?

 Hi Dug :

In addition to "uninstalling" from "Add/Remove
Programs" ( I had to uninstall 3 "components" ) and
running the SymNRT "tool", you should use your machine's
"Search > All files and folders", entering the Search "term"
"Symantec" and later on "Norton" and try to "Delete" all
appropiate items that are listed. Then, if possible, use a
SAFE "registry cleaner" to remove additional items.

Thanks for that…I went to get the symnrt tools, but when I click on the buttons to download them I get the same result as trying to log on to my bank…nothing

Dont know if this helps or makes it worse!!

 Hi Dug :

Then go to my next step of "Search........." ; this is the
"manual" way of doing things & do not ( probably should
NOT ) need to be on the internet .

Thanks Spiritsongs for trying to help.

When I go to search, the animated character is there, but no speech bubble with the choices…I suspect this is probably related to my problem.

With the initial problem I note that the login buttons are javascript, I have the latest version of java so am still confused…

What is your firewall ?

Try it this way:

You may need to click more than once. Your computer may be restarted for you more than once.
You may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.
    c) On the Windows desktop, double-click the SYMMSICLEANUP icon.
Click Run, and then click Yes.
    Click OK.

  3. Boot.

Thanks David, …firewall is windows at the moment

The manual links allowed me to save and run the removal tools no problem…alas no difference.

I think the problem with not being able run the windows search function is definitely related…I vaguely remember a message in the original removal process asking whether to delete unused shared files, I was sure I said no but maybe not??

I don’t know much about it but it seems to me there is some kind of driver or something missing or corrupt or something…wierd thing is I get no error messages at all…just nothing happens.

Thanks again

 Hi Dug :

To check the possibility of your last pagagraph, let's see
if your "Run" function still works !? Try clicking "Run", type
"sfc /scannow" and see what happens !? Note there is a
blank space after the 1st "c" and the "/".

HI Spiritsongs
I meet the same just as Dug met.Now no firewall is used in my pc.
I’v just run “sfc /scannow”,but nothing happened.

 Hi Caibhua :

Did the "sfc /scannow" actually "run" ( did you see a
"progress bar" move slowly from left to right ? ) ?
As long as it actually "runs" and after a while the
progress bar "disappears", it means it found nothing
  wrong .

Spiritsongs:
There is no signal appear,no progress bar.
