I’ve followed the instructions here - http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Please advise on what to do next.

you should also attach the aswMBR and Malwarebytes log

Essexboy is notified…
he is usually here around 08:00pm - 11:59pm UK time

aswMBR log

MWB log

do you still have problems after malwarebytes scan ?

do you have AVG antivirus installed ?

Only install one AV as installing multiple AV can/will creat all kind of windows errors and false positive detections

run and reboot - Uninstallers for Security Software
http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/

Uninstalled AVG.

Problem seems to have been solved. Thanks a lot!

I do wonder how it got by Avast though. We’re usually very diligent about staying away from such occurrences, and this is the first time something got by Avast. Is this a new breed of malware?

come back later and see what essexboy have to say when he have looked at the log`s

he should soon be here…

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Done:

How is the system behaving now ?

Seems to be working fine. No recurrence of the AV2012. Are we in the clear?

Let me know if you are happy tomorrow and I will remove my tools and tidy up ;D

I’m happy today, as long as this is all worked out

It is just to give it a period of time (a day) to confirm that it is gone, e.g. no more alerts or symptoms, etc.

Then report that and essexboy will tell you how to remove your tools and any other general security advice. That way if the problem did recur you have the tools and don’t have to download again.

Understood - thanks!

No sign of the malware today.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top

.

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
.
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.
