(logs included)Virus causes space to decrease, nothing detects, can't be stopped

I’ve done everything I can to stop this thing, even a hard format. I can only account for 24 gigs on the hard drive, yet it says 44 have been used, and it keeps going up. I may have been reinfected by the flash drives I created on another computer that might also be infected. I have included the logs. Please help.

Hi there is no sign of an infection

Is this the drive you are concerned about ? Drive c: () (Fixed) (Total:718.52 GB) (Free:674.94 GB) NTFS

Please download and install WinDirStat.

[*]Click on the desktop icon to run the program.
[*]Click on Individual Drives and then click on C: (or whichever drive is your Main Drive)
[*]Click on OK
[]When the pacmen have finished there will be a graphic display of your drive]
[
]Place your cursor on the divider line between the text above and the color graph below and drag downwards to expand the upper portion of the resultant image produced
[*]Please create a screen shot and attach or upload the image to your next post so I can have a look

It will look something like this
Then using the + markers open the folder taking the largest amount of space
Then drive down to determine where the majority of the space is taken

I agree with essexboy.
My guess at this point is that you did not looked at hidden files/folders.

It does say in WinDirStat that there is only 23 GB, however, my windows stats say it has 43 GB. I don’t know how to put pictures in my posts so they are attached.

Why create a new topic when the case was already worked at here ::slight_smile:

I tried working on it myself. I am sorry. I thought I could get at it. I just get skittish about sharing my personal data about my computer online. I came back when all my attempts failed. Please don’t hold it against me.

Edit: I wanted a clean slate to work off of. Forgive me if I have offended anyone. That post was my first time asking ANYONE about issues like these. I’ve never done this before… I am a n00b.

Then you should have contiued in same topic since it is the same issue … next time

Hmm this is mysterious as both windirstat and windows should agree

Could you run a chkdsk to see if there are bad clusters that windows has marked not to use

On my laptop now, which shows the same problem, BTW, while the main PC does a chkdsk. It is showing roughly 143,000 files to be scanned when WinDirStat accounted for only 86,000… I have all hidden and system’s files able to be seen. Where are these files hiding?

Guys, I feel like an idiot… I found a forum out there that states that unaccounted for missing gigs taking up space on your hard drive is from system restore points. I cleared the system restore points on my laptop and it is all accounted for now. I need to find the settings that makes it so they don’t take up so much space. But yeah, false alarm. Everything’s peachy again.

OK go to control panel > system
Select Advanced system settings
Select system protection tab
Click configure
Then set the size that you want
