Can you post an image of your friends avast alert as I have no problem connecting to google.com.

There is a possibility that he may have some form of search engine redirect.

Very interesting, is your friend accessing google from a link or typing the domain name in ?

I know that google.com in itself tries to redirect you to your country version of google, normally when I connect it switches to google.co.uk and that causes me no end of problems as it also switches to https google.co.uk and that messes up my personal settings, so much so that I have switched to Yahoo.

In order for me to actually go to google.com with no switch I have to type http://www.google.com/ncr the last bit /ncr is no country redirect. Have your friend try that link and see if it connects without alert.
