Just came to Avast! “camp” from Avira AntiVir “camp” ;D
(after being AntiVir / Avira AntiVir user for several years)
The reason for that is / was - that as of Dec 31 / 2007, Avira AntiVir is discontinuing support for Win 98/ME…
So basically happy to know that you guys still supporting Win 98/ME…
( ya… lol - i am still running on Win ME … - someday i will ugrade to XP or to a new computer … but not just yet )
What about the future… - are you planning to continue supporting Win 98/ME operating system(s)?
The plans are: new features will be added only for new OS (XP some, Vista all).
For old OS, the old features will remain compatible and available.
Welcome to avast forums.
Just to verify though (cuz i am not that smart when it comes to anti-viruses) – “For old OS, the old features will remain compatible and available”
Does this mean the program will STILL continue to work / protect / real-time protect me?
And how about new “virus updates” … - will Win 98/Me program STILL continue to be able to get those / to update properly in the Future? (… just as it does basically now)
I registered for FREE Avast! … on line… (like 1/2 hour ago) … and just now received email from Avast! … with my registration key…
So i just entered it… and the proggy is registered now…
But i noticed something … not sure if it means anything … or anything important:
Before i entered the key it said there:
Type: Demo
Expiration: Feb 08
Updates Expiration: 2013 (some month … i forgot now)
Now after registration it says:
Type: Home
Expiration: Never
Updates Expiration: March 1, 2009 12:00 AM
So i guess i would like to know “Updates Expiration: March 1, 2009 12:00 AM” … - if i understand it correctly it does NOT mean this will be the end of Win 98/ME updates on this date (for FREE users anyhow), BUT rather at that date will more likely need to re-register … to get a new key / current key extended?
Correct?
Correct! You just re-register for a new key. The date ( March 1, 2009 12:00 AM ) is for program/VPS updates. So when this date is getting closer, you just re-register for a new key.
Im an ex antivir premium user and current nod 32 user (still have a license for the next year),however ive come to the conclusion that a good av is one that doesnt bother you,is reliable, updates frequently and just gets on with the job.Thats why i now have avast installed (last few months).I now worry about my other programme choices…not my av choice.I think youve made a wise desicion.
