loose internet connection when avast starts

Tried everything to find why phoneline disconnects after only being connected for 30seconds approx . To connect to internet i must dial-up 2 or 3 times before the connection becomes stable.
After that it stays connected. This co-incides with Avast coming on. I have temporily disabled Avast and the problem stopped.
This has been happening only for about 1 month,.before this
everything was OK. and I am very happy with the way Avast operates. I cannot understand why.this happens. Today i tried to update spybot and also got disconnected.? Our phone company has checked all the lines and slowed modem and did tests…No answers. About 10 days ago, i had WIN32:Trojan-gen[other]
and Avast put it in the chest. After Avast also found similar in
Winamp .I deleted all of Winamp to be sure, because this is the first time this has happened to us.,and we are not very familar with virus type things…Any advise would be so much appreciated. I will check back daily in hopes of answers.Thanks

Please provide more information like:

What OS are you using?
What exact version of Avast?
Is it Avast in total who is causing this or just one provider? (if just one provider, which one?)

etc etc etc.

The only solution so far[ to save several phone calls to dial up the net]is to turn off Avast for a few minutes[5] during a session.,leaving us unprotected. Being a self taught newbie

Disable the providers in Avast one at a time to see if it is just one or all that are causing this.
Ofcourse try to connect after disabling one.
This will cost some money dialing in, but we have to find where exactly the problem is before we can look for a solution.

Left click the ‘a’ blue icon.
Choose WebShield provider at left and terminate it on the proper button.
You’ll see a message…
Answer ‘yes’ to persist the changes.
Test.
If you cannot connect correctly, start with the other providers.
Let us know 8)

Hello, So far, [although only connecting up 4 or 5 times,] it seems to be fixing the problem by disabling the webshield
provider. If this proves continually sucessful, how can I still
protected against viruses? thanks . Cheers

Just set the Standard Shield provider to High sensitivity.

Hello and thanks, so far, the Web shield seems to be the culprit.
It cut-off once, so far, but I’m happy if only occasional. Have’nt yet proved it completely though-need more time testing. Will let you know, when certain. .
When this problem first happened, I had the modem slowed down to see if it helped. It did’nt. It now runs at 44000bps instead of around 50000bps. Do you think it would be OK to speed it up again?given that this was not the problem. Its painfully slow, especially on the weekends.Cheers
