Loosing faith ...

I am not appointing blame on AVAST … or Commodo for that matter, but since the last major update of AVAST I’ve had numerous problems, mostly crashes on system start-up which always involve AVAST when analysed.

Despite the great help I’ve received from Essexboy in the past and after which I have disabled AVAST Sandbox, soon thereafter problems started again. I then disabled behaviour shield which for a few days did the trick but now I experience crashes again. Once more, analysing is showing AVAST as the cause.

I know there is a long standing debate about the incompability of Commodo and AVAST but why have I only had these crashes after 1485??

I was advised to use Windows firewall instead of Commodo but I now think I may look for another antivirus as all the problems seem to stem from AVAST lately. Unfortunately Commodo has not released a new version for 5 users and I do not want to use the current 6.

In all the years before I didn’t have those problems.

Why not just update your comodo to version 6, it’s the version they made that fixes the compatibility problems.

Or install one of the many other firewalls out there - Outpost, Online Armor, Privatefirewall.

Try this one: tinywall.pados.hu

This is a serious bit of kit and complements Avast superbly as light as a feather too.

Thanks for the replies.

Tbh, I don’t know what the best solution is. I just disabled commodo completely (not uninstalled but disabled in start-up) and my laptop still crashed.

I then switched off the AVAST self-defence module and disabled it from start-up, this time with Commodo enabled again. No problems.

Worth noting I am now trying the latest Beta of AVAST but to no avail.

I am just wondering if all these software makers, in the race for more and more features make programmes that were previously light and dependable more complex and resource consuming than necessary … ?

All I know is that before 1485 I did not have any problems, this would, I guess, despite my previous comments on not finger pointing, indicate AVAST as the cause of all the problems.

I will try Commodo 6 this weekend but having tried AVAST without Commodo to no avail kind of makes me think this will be fruitless.

If that indeed is the case then I will not uninstall a programme that works fine (Commodo) but rather look for an other Anti-virus.

Shame really as I now and have gotten used to the AVAST interface.

I can’t complain to much as I did get a few years of good service out of AVAST and am a free user rather than a paying one.

Thanks anyway.

We can say the same for the opposite: Comodo has its issues and avast! runs fine.
I’m on Comodo forum for a long time. When there is a problem, we can receive silence as paying…

Point taken and I probably shouldn’t have written that.

Apologies and perhaps in the future the two programmes will work together.

This is a mess. I wasted my money buying PRO/Internet Security. Worse than McAfee. Used free home since 2005, now this. And they have the gall to ask me to recommend it! What a waste. I won’t even ask for a refund.

You don’t state what is a mess so without any information we cant provide help ::slight_smile:

I have found an interim way of using both. Less than ideal but by preventing AVAST from starting up automatically in system configuration (delayed start in AVAST options makes no difference) I can still use the AV as and when needed and my system doesn’t constantly crash when starting up.

I run avast 8 with comodo firewall 5.12 and there has been no issues.
Just a question though…Have you made all the exclusions etc.?

Hope your problem gets sorted.

P.S. I would steer clear of comodo v6 until the list of issues have been fixed. In my personal opinion v6 was released far too early and the recent 200 bug fix update would seem to confirm this.

Releasing a product with 200 bugs is pretty bad in my view.

Thanks. The problem seems unique to my system for some reason as I don’t think others experience the same problems.

I have excluded AVAST from Commodo and vice versa. - What are your settings for AVAST Behaviour Shield (enabled?) and AVAST Sandbox?

regards

I have made a global exclusion of comodo in the avast general settings.
I cant see where i exclude avast in comodo 5.12 though.

I am losing faith as well. Avast! scheduled full scan would never scan. I am trying windows task scheduler, not sure if it will work either. Even if it does, that is very disappointing that professional software does not run scans properly even after waiting for months.

Firewall - define trusted application
