Lost confidence Avast

I have lost confidence using Avast on Windows 10. ( have changed to kaspersky Internet security). I have used Avast for over 12 years.

My wife will still be using Avast on her windows vista. ( trying to get her to upgrade), so will still be logging on etc.

Sadly I have to second that, after probably five or six years of happy use, at least when it comes to my personal laptop. Between work and hope I run three W10 desktops, and four laptops, some pro edition, some home edition, and all work fine with avast except for my laptop. I just built it about three months ago…based on a W10 Home DELL I7 Inspiron 15, with 16GB of thoroughly tested top quality RAM, and a fully tested Samsung Pro SSD. All was well on W8 for several weeks, and then the upgrade to W10 brought nonstop issues. Blue screens with the unhappy face with too many different errors to list here. I kept track of the list until it was more than a half dozen errors long and then threw it in the trash, figuring the motherboard must have issues…I tried different drivers for all the devices, but no dice. I thought my $800 laptop was a brick…didn’t even think of suspecting AVAST AV.

Then I started researching and found tons of people who had these problems resolved by removing AVAST. I immediately deleted it, and installed AVG. That was three weeks ago, and with tons of daily use, lots of starts, restarts, etc., not a single issue. This is not scientific obviously, and yes there could be some small chance an update went in and solved the issue in reality. However I think that highly unlikely, and I’m sticking with AVG at least for a good while. I went from a half dozen plus random errors coming up constantly to nothing, immediately after deleting AVAST, and I just want to share my experience. Again, this affected only one of many W10 PCs in fairness, but it would appear that a certain percentage of W10 PCs simply will not work correctly with Avast. Just my casual non-expert, non-scientific observation / opinion…just my two cents, nothing more.

Very often a repair of avast is solving the problems.
If that is not solving it, a clean installation is the next thing to do.

Since you are now using AVG, this is something to know :

I had exactly the same issue when updating to Win 10.
I looked for the latest updates for my Avast software and tried to reinstall several times.
I am at a loss to know what to do next.
Presently I have the Microsoft antiv only.
I have paid for the Avast stuff and am interested in a constructive solution from them.

sunoloc,

please start your own thread if you want help and provide details.

e.g.

  • What exact OS/SP ?
  • What exact version of avast ?
  • Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
  • If you get a error, what is the exact error ?
    etc

I have done a recovery install windows 10, have decided to try avast again, have found that this forum seems to be very active, and helpful.

Yep, it sure is.

Thats assuming users are using chrome of course.
Incidentally the blog you linked does state the issue was fixed at the bottom.

Arnold,

since you don’t help people at all, please stop posting on this webboard.
