v4.8 Home - Free
A website - my.vuezone.com changed the way that I connect to a remote data center to view remote cameras and the connection is now over TCP port 80 and the web shield seems to be preventing the connection - I have been told it is a non-http binary connection over port 80 and Avast sees it as a threat. I could not figure out how to set an exception, tried website name, IP, etc. but it is still not allowed unless I remove port 80 from the ‘Redirected http port(s):’ list. Any ideas how to allow access without having to remove port 80 completely?
It isn’t so much that avast sees it as a threat, but that avast is expecting HTTP protocol over port 80.
What is happening is that the web shield is effectively choking on the unexpected protocol.
Removing port 80 from the redirect is the same as disabling the web shield for every web site not just this one, so you lose its protection. You need to exclude that site from the web shield scan.
In the same place that you removed the port 80 redirect, add the IP address for my.vuezone.com, see image. That should allow you to connect to that site and have the redirect for port 80 enabled.
Thanks for the information - there are multiple IPs that the connection can be established to and they all don’t fit in that field - how can I add more IPs than what it takes? It took 16.
You’re welcome.
You can try adding just the domain, but I don’t know if that will work.
I don’t know how you might get around any total input restriction.
If that doesn’t work, you can add multiple IPs by using a comma as a separator, e.g. IP1,IP2,IP3,IP4, etc.
I also don’t know if there is a way of inputting a range of IPs, e.g. 123.0.0.1-123.0.0.26, etc. assuming that there is a range of IPs which it can be applied.
Unfortunately I can’t be a great deal of help as I’m working from memory and old images as I no longer use avast 4.8, but avast 5.0.507 and I would advise updating to avast 5.0 (not that it is any easier to do what you are attempting).
That’s me for the night, 4am here.
Where would I input this on Avast 5 - I do not see the same options available?
I though you were using avast 4.8 home ???
I have downloaded version 5 on another system to see if that would be a better option and to test it from there. I now have 4.8 on one system and v5 on another.
OK, di you have any joy in 4.8 in entering just the domain name or a range of IPs as mentioned ?
Tried to enter the range but it didn’t appear to take. I was able to enter all 16 IPs into v5 and it took them all. I will update my other system to v5. Thank you for directing me to that location and for your help.
No problem, glad I could help.
