Lost Icon

I find that the Home edtion of Avast to be excellent, but recently I changed my operating system from Widows 98se to XP Pro. since then I’ve lost the Icon blue “a” marked indicator ball from the right hand end of the Task Bar, in spite of doing a Avast re-installation to hopefully correct the problem, I still can’t find a way for it to be seen in it’s usual position.
Is this a “quirk” of XP? because I still feel that Avast is doing it’s job, or is there something else I must do to correct the problem?
You help would be very much appreciated.

Hi herb and Welcome to the forum!

No the “a” icon should be there no matter if it’s Win98, win2000 or winXP , here’s a thought since your new to XP have you noticed a little arrow in the lower right screen? Some icons have the habbit of hidding after a time so you get a little more space to work with , check out the picture below.

Hi Herb , did you completely uninstall Avast! when you upgraded? Then reinstall ?
Avast is a different program with different features in win xp and therefore needs a total reinstallation in an upgrade like yours. Hope this helps

When you change OS you need to uninstall, reboot and reinstall avast! for it to work properly with the new OS. This is especialy true with an upgrade to XP as there are avast functions that work differently in XP and some that are new, such as being able to do a boot-time scan before windows starts (extremely useful).
