lost my protection

I have avast home edition on all 3 of my home computers, my PC, my LAPTOP, and the PC I bought for my HUSBAND.
This one, the one I bought for my husband, Windows ME, I noticed today the little icon ball with the “a” in it wasn’t spinning, I clicked it to open the menu and all of my protection criteria is gone except internet mail and peer to peer. I never turned it off except recently when I ran a scan disk and a defrag cause windows said to turn off all running applications, it supposedly restarted ten times and couldn’t run with avast in the background running.
Then I opened up the main console and the only things listed there also was internet mail and peer to peer.
Where did standard shield and all the other protections go?
I am redownloading it now I hope that repairs it.
Do I need to get another registration key for it or can I use the same one I had on it to start with?
I didn’t uninstall the old application, I am simply downloading the new one over the old.

??? Ok download is complete now I have 4 protection criterias internet mail, P2P, Outlook, and Instant messaging, but standard shield is still not there.

Please help!

I would suggest that you try a change of the set-up of avast.
Using windows Add Remove programs, select avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and Change, from the new window tick the Standard Shield box, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

If it is already ticked, you will probably need to repair your avast installation. So using windows Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

That is just it, there is no standard shield button, not there, or on the main console, or on the menu window that opens when I click the icon in the task bar.

I will go hit change and see what I see there.

OK it is doing something I think it is repairing it now.
