Loud Announcement

Hello: I’m new to avast!, and very happy to have it.

However, this morning around 6 AM, I was awakened by a very loud announcement coming from my computer’s speakers. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what it said. The gist of it was that “things are OK”, but I don’t remember exactly what. I assume having downloaded avast! yesterday caused this to happen.

I tried, but I could not figure out how to shut down this “announcement” feature. I’d like to be able to sleep. How do I shut it off? Thanks.

  1. you could switch off your speakers.
  2. you could disable avast sounds (Program Settings, Sounds), but that would not just be a night time thing.
  3. you could shutdown your system at night, unless you have to have it on.

It is possible that the announcement was an auto update (VPS file) completing successfully, you could change how it updates.

Thanks. I’d like to go with option 2. I prefer to leave my speakers on because if I turn them off, I might forget to turn them on the next day when I need them.

I don’t know how to go to “Program Settings/Sound” in avast! I’ve only used the avast icon on the windows toolbar and it does not seem to have that option. How would I use that option? Thanks.

Right click the icon and select Program Settings… then select Sounds, tick the box to diable avast! sounds.

Check avast! Logs for that date and time and you’ll see what happened.
