FWF if I remember the pound equals something like 2 USD, if so then the Air is almost $2400 in the UK for the same laptop that sells for $1800 in the US. Is the rest some kind of import tax or something?

We have Dollar parity despite the exchange rate: Whatever costs $1 in the US costs £1 in the UK.
