mail and web scanners services

Hi all.

I use Avast home edition for quite a long time. Yesterday I noticed, after a clean format and new installation of Avast, that mail and web services were set to manual. I changed for automatic. I assume it should have neen on automatic so why were they set to manual?

I noticed this when I got an error message during the first update. I can’t remember the text but it was about having all windows updates installed and something about looking into services. When I checked my other computer, which never had any problem, it was also set to manual.

Could you explain how this should be because it’s an awfull problem if your scanners are not working and you do not get any notification.

Manual is the default. They would be started when an application start browsing or send/receiving email.

Services? Hmmm… could be related, major of times, don’t.
Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Thanks for the quick response.

So, it seems that my installation was working well, after all. Like I wrote before I changed it To Automatic in Services. Was I wrong? Could this have any adverse effect?

Regarding the error message, unfortunately the computer is not in my possession at the moment so I can’t copy from the Avast Log.

Thanks again.

Be used to avast forums.

You will have, probably, a bad login process. If I were you, I’ll let them in manual. Anyway, no drop in your protection level.

We can wait

There was some slightly misleading information above.

The avast services are set to Manual so that avast it self can ask Windows (at startup) to start the services you have selected (or not start them) as determined by you in your settings for the avast settings you want active and indicated to avast by the avast user interface.

This is the design decided by the very capable avast team and does not require intervention.

Thanks for all of you.
