under topic 25 “lost message when not connected”.
If I am not connected to the internet and accidentally try to send an email using Pegasus PMAIL, AVAST will return an error message to PMAIL and the message is deleted from the outgoing pending queue. This has only recently started happening since updating to PMAIL 4.3 a few weeks ago. I have no record of any update to the underlying AVAST program since August 05. However, PMAIL gurus say this would have happened under previous versions of PMAIL (which it didn’t). It seems to me that the new version of PMAIL has exposed a minor problem in AVAST, but I am no techie, and I am not pointing fingures. It would just be nice to sort out what is happening, and fix it ?
The message header I get when AVAST is disabled and phone disconnected is :
Content-description: Mail message body
X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0603-4, 20/01/2006), Outbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Not-Tested
X-SA-Exim-Connect-IP: 212.67.120.103 etc, etc,…
The response I got from the PMAIL users forum was :
“Right! So we’ve proven that Avast! is the culprit – whether it
scans outgoing or not, it’s still being used as a proxy. …there is no need for Avast! to be involved in the SMTP process, only the POP3. I recommend that you set your Tools|Internet options|Sending profile to connect (to Onetel? or whatever mailserver
you use) and not use Avast! for those transfers since it’s proven to be dangerous.”
I would not like either PMAIL or AVAST to lose support, but unless I can sort this out, one of them will have to go. Any further suggestions out there ?
