Mail flow blocked completely by avast Gmail and Thunderbird

I’m using Thunderbird with Google Apps and gmail.

I’m also using avast. Right up until yesterday everything worked beautifully. Then everything stopped. Mail stopped coming into Thunderbird through IMAP and I could no longer send through SMTP.

The only thing I’ve been able to do that allows me to send and recieve mail is stop the Mail Shield Service and set all of my server settings back to secure.

I have a same kind of problem. After updating to Avast 8 Thunderbird tells me to get new certificates.

I only can retrieve (part of) my gmail when I disable the Avast.

This is terribly annoying since it used to work fine for more than 2 years now.
I have thunderbird 2.0.0.24 and Vista.

I contacted Avast Technical Support, they told me to uninstall with aswclear.exe and then to reinstall. I did that, but I still have the same problem. I informed the TS of Avast (I have sent them 4 mails by now) and guess what? They sent me the same solution (uninstall-reinstall) now 3 or 4 times, and refuse to give a personal answer, they apparently do not ‘read’ the messages.

If any of you has a real solution?

Check out this thread, which includes a discussion of solutions – where things stand with the procedure worked out in this thread is summarized quite well in the current last message of the thread (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117795.msg917770#msg917770 ). Hope this helps. It didn’t solve my problem, but some other people seem to have found that it worked.

I don’t think that thread applies. I was running without SSL/TLS when this began.
