I have set to delete scan logs after 30 days but there are still a number of mail logs in the log folder that date back to February - why ?
And is it OK to delete these manually - I presume so but would like to be sure.
Also the setup log is growing to 10 mb ! Doesn’t really matter as I have enough space but will it grow for ever …?
Well I would suggest setting a size limit on the normal log files I have mine set at 128KB. The setup log is somewhat different (used for debugging, etc.) and won’t be restricted by that size limit.
Where are you seeing this delete logs after 30 days, if avast Settings, Maintenance, then I don’t think the mail shield logs would be included in this as it isn’t actually an on-demand scan and this what I think it refers to. Check the mail shield log and you will probably only see entries for it starting each day, unless you actually find something.
I think the logs it refers to are the Quick/Full System scan, etc. these logs can be further restrained through the particular Scan, Settings, Report file, I have then set to Overwrite and not Append, so I only have the last scan details in the log.
Thanks David,
I have now set the size limit to 128kb and I’ve realized that the log settings in the Mail Shield settings were set to Append which no doubt explains it. I had not set logging in the Quick/Full System scan.
Thanks again.
