Mail Merge with Open Office

I’m using OpenOffice 2.0 Writer to do a mail merge to email. I’m emailing to several hundred addresses, but after a 90-100 emails, I get an error message from Writer saying the SMTP Server Disconnected.

I’m guessing that Avast is interpreting this mail merge as a spam bot and shutting it down. My question is: how do I set Avast to either allow more emails through the SMTP server before shutting down, or setting Writer as a safe sender?

My OS is Windows 7 Version 6.1
Avast is the free version 6.0.1000

Your version of avast is way out of date, 6.0.1125 is the latest stable http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
