Have just downloaded latest version of avast (4.6). ( I was using avg but update was tempremental)

When I start my pc ( XP home - 8 months old) avast puts up splash screens to tell me that pop3/smtp
emails will not be scanned

I see that the mail protection wizard is not included in latest versions !

how do i set avast to scan emails?? ( my email and internet connection both work ok.

any help would be appreciated

The mail protection Wizard isn’t required with XP (win95/98, winME only) to be able to scan email prior to its arrival in the inbox.

The likely problem is if you haven’t uninstalled AVG or there is something left by the uninstall routine (registry entries). This could cause conflict with avast and it may not have fully installed to avoid conflict.

Have you fully removed AVG?

First of all many thanks for your prompt response .

You were quit right ! I discovered remnants of avg.

I have cleaned these out and all is now ok.
