I just dowloaded avast 4.8 on my Windows XP computer. I don’t believe my email in Outlook Express 6 is being checked and when I go to look for the Mail Protection Wizard, I don’t have it. I go to the start menu and go under the avast file, but there is no MPW there. Any suggestions?
The Mail Protection Wizard is only for win9x and winME Operating Systems, XP, etc. is transparent, so you don’t require it.
When avast is scanning your email, first you will see the avast ‘a’ icon rotate and a new icone in the system tray, see image.
If you check your email headers you should see two avast entries indicating it was scanned.
Why don’t you think the email is being scanned ?
Do you use SSL (secure encrypted) email ?
The reason I don’t think it’s working is because I sent myself a test email to see if the header is in it and it is not. And no, I don’t believe I use SSL.
It also says in the On-Access Scanner The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start.
It also says in the On-Access Scanner The provider is waiting for a subsystem to startdo you have 6 of 7 running? nr 7 is for outlook (not outlook express)

My email is through Bellsouth, but goes through Yahoo. I use Outlook Express to get my email.
My email is through Bellsouth, but goes through Yahoo. I use Outlook Express to get my email.well yahoo is using SSL so if yahoo is providing mail for Bellsouth then it is probably SSL if you open your mailprogram and check you settings Avast cant scan SSL (the new avast 5 can) To scan SSL with avast 4.8 you need stunnel www.stunnel.org
Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 995)
Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 465, use authentication)
yahoo is using norton antivirus to scan mail on there mail servers, so it is scanned before you see it
I’m guessing avast 5 you have to buy?? I just downloaded this last night, so I figure it gave me the latest version.
There is 3 versions of avast 5 ( all still in beta)
Avast free
Avast pro (pay)
Avast security suite (pay)
