mail scan mozilla 1.6

I use mozilla 1.6 with windows xp, zone alarm home ed.
I have installed avast and I read all instructions for manual setting for the mail program. When I consulted the setting in «avast4.ini» and in the account property of Mozilla program mail, evething was already well set, as written in the instructions note. I didn’t have to change anything
As mentioned in the instruction note, when I send a message to myself, I do not see headers «X-antivirus: avast…etc.»
But when I receive and send messages, the A blue icone in the systemtray is spinning .
Should I assume that the mail scanning is working well? How can I verify it ?
Thank you for the advice

you sure that your pop/smtp servers are set to 127.0.0.1?

mozilla is definitely supported by avast…so why didn’t you use the mail wizard?..it’s so much easier… :wink:

i read that you can send/receive mails…in that case if your pop/smtp servers are already set to 127.0.0.1…then avast mail server should be running…

check from your resident shield (system tray) that the internet mail provider is running…

by the way…did you see any mail scanning icon in your system tray when sending or receiving mails?

Thank for your answer. But I still have some questions. My english and my computer knowlodge are limited…!
My setting in avast4.ini (mail scanner) are:
defaultPopServer=pop.Kam.org
DefaultSmtp=Smtp.kam.org
ShowtrayIcon=1
Autosetprotection=0
UsedefaultSmtp=0

In Mozilla mail program
(edit/ account property/server property)

  • Server name:127.0.0.1
  • User name: name#pop.kam.org
    (edit/account property/outgoing server)
  • Server name:127.0.0.1
  • User name: #smtp.kam.org
    So, to the question if I am sure if my pop/smtp are set to 127.0.0.1,
    I think the answer is yes
    Secondly To the question «…why didn’t you use the mail Wizard»? I dont know exactly what it is and where I can find it…My poor computer knowledge…and english!
    Thirdly, when I send a message my Internet provider icon appear in the system tray
    Finally, I don’t see mail scanning Icon from avast in my system tray. Before I used Norton AV, and there was a kind of popup window appearing when sending a message and indicated the % of scanning. I imagine that is what you mean by Mail scanning Icon. Is it suppose to be a specific scanning Icon from Avast apparing…? What does it look like? I only have a bubble with a «A» and with a «I». When I send a message the A bubble is spinning.
    So, I hope that those additional information will allow you to confirm that avast is scannig my message
    Thank you very much again

No, we can perfectly understand you. If you need more information about the avast4.ini file, take a look here:
http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1647

Start Menu > Programs > avast antivirus > Mail Protection Wizard

The icon of Internet Provider is temporary, after the scan finishes it goes away. You seem to be protected with the ‘a’ spinning and if the temporary icons appears and disappears some seconds after. Try to send an email to yourself with an attached file with 100 kb for instance. This will give ‘time’ for the Internet Provider icon to be shown and you will be able to see it there. Oh, I forgot, I suppose you check this option (see an icon) into the Internet Mail settings… :wink:

Welcome to the forum, simpof! :slight_smile:

I am wondering what your natural language is. Avast! is available in several languages.

Bonjour
French is my first language and I know that there will be a french version of avast soon. Let us know when available.
For the provider Icon, it is ok , I see it when I send a message
I have consulted the mail wizard and the setting is:
Smtp server name: Smtp.kam.org
Default pop3 server: pop.kam.org
Show task bar when processing mail is check
In your first reply, when you say «no, we can perfectly understand you…», is that mean that the setting is incorrect and that the mail message are not scan. I have consulted the document on «Understanding avast4.ini file », very usefull… In my understanding, my setting, as describe in my last message, is ok.
Is there something that I have missed. Do you need more information.
Thank again

i guess you didn’t miss a thing…

but maybe you can insert note into clean incoming/outgoing messages…this is a nice feature… :slight_smile:

french?.. :D…by the way…my favorite soccer player is cantona!!! ;D ;D ;D

Bonjour
French from Quebec Canada not from France. Quebec is a french province in Canada. Sorry i don’'t know Cantona. I better know hockey player…!
How can I insert note incoming/outgoing messages?

click on the avast ‘a’ icon’ on your system tray…bottom right of your screen…

then go to internet mail provider…customise

Bonjour
Everything is all right. I got the header saying that the message have been scan and that there are no virus. So thanks a lot for your good advice. Nice software.
