Mail scanner blocks ALL mail

Hello All,

WHen the mail scanner is enabled my mail checking programs (truelaunchbar, Opera and mailwasher) cannot access the mails, is there a tutorial to set this service properly ?

Thanks

Try this.

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4

and launch

What is your OS?
What error messages (exact or screen print) are you getting?

Ensure that your firewall allows ashMaiSv.exe, what is your firewall?

Also visit the User’s FAQ thread, it will give you a lot of useful advice.

What does the TrueLaunchBar do, I haven’t heard of it?

I use MailWasher Pro and I exclude it from the email scanning in the avast4.ini file.

[MailScanner] IgnoreProcess=MailWasher.exe

OK–I used the ashpopwiz–LOL–and it told me that my maill was laready being protected–and termintaed the setup–HOWEVER–I am not able to recieve or send any mail, so that begs the question, “How can my mail be protectd if I cant recieve it”?
LOL–Just the newb in me I guess–but I AM having fun tryng to figure this out–FOR NOW!!!

If your not receiving mail then you are defiantly not going to be infected that way!!

Need more details as per DavidR

Windows XP–Home edition
SP2 Celeron 2.6ghz
256M ram

Anything else??

Avast turned on–MS outlook message

Avast turned off–No problems

As of just now–totally uninstalled avast–reinstalled-rebooted, and now I have all the providers running–not sure if they were before-but the ball is going roundy roundy!!–
HOWEVER–I still get the same message(as above) when trying to start outlook–if avast is activated–

You may find what you are looking for here until then I will have to do a little more research myself

Hope this helps---------http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=search2

Uhh–that link went nowhere–care to try again??

Same problem for me somthing wrong with the link

Just go to the top of this page (search) and entre "Can’t select any server for downloading "

There are quite a few links with similar problems What browser do you Use?

Mozilla–and I have spent quite some time searching for answers–sounds very Zen, doesn’t it??–
At least in the last 48 hours anyway!!
And nothing comes up with those sesrch parameters anyway!!

This is a mail settings problem or modem related

Your signature shows that you also have AVG installed not recommended to tun 2 AV programs

Ahhhh-no—still the same–regardless of the provider…
As for the AVG—both have been running harmoniously for a couple months now–do you suggest I kill one off??
And whether one or both are running, I still have the same problem.

Both have resident shields running which could cause conflicts it is up-to you however I personally

have had very bad experience running 2 AV programs in tandem The general consensus is one

and only one AV Avast is the most configurable AV program I have ever used and I have tried them

All!!

I see DavidR has picked up on this thread now your dealing with a very knowledgable forum member

Well, I killed off the avg, reinstalled and rebooted–AGAIN–and --voila–no change…

Unfortunately the Mail Protection Wizard has nothing to do with this problem.

Ensure that your firewall allows ashMaiSv.exe (if running in task manager), what is your firewall?

Can you confirm your email program, and which avast providers you have running relating to email scanning?

I have six out of seven providers running–instant/internet/network/outlook/standardand web…
Windows firewall running
Outlook express–current version

sorry–double shot–

please post the log file C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\DATA\log\aswMaiSv.log after the error occurs.

Is this what you want??

You don’t need the Outlook/Exchange provider/plug-in running unless you have either the MS Outlook or MS Exchange email client. Although it is unlikely, having the Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange providers running may cause conflict.

You only need providers running if you have a need for them IM if you use internet messaging. Unnecessary providers can be terminated, or removed using add remove programs, selset avast antivirus, remove/change, from the new window select change, in the new window you can untick the providers you don’t need.
