Every start up I keep getting “avast!: Mail Scanner warning - avast will not be able to protect news (NNTP protocol) Error: 10022” also for (SMTP protocol), (POP3 protocol) and so on for mail. I have checked everything previously mentioned in forum. I am getting spam like crazy. What can I do?
Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?
The 10022 error is a windows error 'An invalid argument was supplied. ’ that seems strange as no arguments are being passed at start-up as far as I’m aware.
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
avast doesn’t filter SPAM so even were it to be working it shouldn’t have any effect on spam unless it were infected also.
Is ashmaisv.exe allowed to connect the internet?
Do you use any spam killer application? Which one? Which ports does it listen to?
