hello i am using Avast Home 4.7 (i love it). Does the email Scanner can Scanning SSL Pop in/out and SSl smtp /in/out and certify it?
No, not without a third party program, such a stunnel. SSL is secure and av’s can’t decrypt it. The whole point of ssl.
a search on this forum for stunnel will return many hits as it seems quiet a few posters are trying this solution.
The whole idea of SSL encrypted email is to keep prying eyes out and that includes AV scanners.
Under certain email programs avast can scan content that would then be encrypted, MS Outlook (not express) and 'The Bat# both have plug-ins that effectively mean avast is working ‘inside’ the email client, so avast can scan the email and if OK it is then encrypted and send using SSL.
Other than these two email programs you need a third party interface as has been mentioned by oldman.
What is your email program ?
Why is it that you need to scan SSL email, Gmail, ISP requires SSL, etc. ?
THX for the answers.
I am using the Seamonkey Suite and the Seamonkey Mail Client. Avast works great with this client.
Yes i am using gmail. Gmail needs SSL to be connected.
I don’t know if this will help or not ???
Gmail has its own anti-virus scan and anti-spam also I believe, so you may feel that for gmail the hasle of setting up avast and STunnel might be to much.
