You can’t see it because it isn’t there in avast7

well it used to be and it was working until i had to reinstalled internet security this am
is there a way to do it!!!
hi david r

That’s because the clean install would have replaced the avast5.ini file.

 • This option is greatly depreciated in that it is easy to fake and these fake 'email scanned by XXXX (insert AV of choice) and found to be clean have been used in malicious emails in the past and who trusts that anyway, I certainly don’t.

Why is it needed when if an inbound email is infected avast will alert, brand the email Subject and remove any infected attachment, etc. For outbound email it too would alert if infected/suspicious, etc. the only real benefit is promotion of avast. Who trusts it if the message is from other AVs, so why would they trust it is from avast!.

It really doesn’t bring anything additional in the way of security, potentially the reverse as opening an email could actually initiate a remote attack. So looking inside an email for a clean note could potentially put you at more risk, it certainly isn’t something I would rely on.

As an avast user (who previously used the outbound clean note to promote avast) I believe that the above comments are why avast! took the decision to end this option. Not to mention that in some email clients (Incredimail I believe) this option wasn’t completely compatible.

If this is something you absolutely must have then you will have to do it manually:

 • You can do it by modifying the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\AvastEmailShield.ini (XP location) or C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\AvastEmailShield.ini (Vista, Win7). Note these folders may be hidden.

Find these values InsertNoteCleanMsgIn=0 and InsertNoteCleanMsgOut=0, InsertNoteInfectedMsgIn=0 now change the =0 to =1 (you only need to do that for the ones that you want to have the Note inserted). Now save the changes, the avast! Self-Defence Module will ask for confirmation, answer Yes.

not worth the trouble doing that for the insert note stuff…will do as you suggested and all=thanks davidr…take care my friend

You’re welcome.

It doesn’t take long.

G’day drhayden1 we use to have this option in the Avast version, however Avast remove the insert message from their mail shield behaviour section as David said above. So I got you’re PM message sorry for being late Fat Cat ;D as DavidR already answer you’re question.

curious as a cat(garfield)wasn’t gonna change it-but can’t found them in the first place-where are they???

What do you mean you can’t find them they are in your image.

You have been hit by the MS default settings (stupid dumb assed default setting if you ask me) of hiding file types for known types and my question is always the same, known to whom, well Microsoft of course.

Change your windows explorer settings to display all file types, Tools, Folder Options, uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ option

don’t wanna be a da davidr but where is that ::)…Change your windows explorer settings to display all file types, Tools, Folder Options, uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’ option
i have windows 7

You know that windows explorer is what you view your folders and file in.

Well you need to get to its menu, easy in XP as the menu is displayed (win7 hides the Menu function in the cause of aesthetics), but you should be able to restore, display the Menu toolbar in windows explorer, then as I have said select Tools, Folder Options, View tab.

In win7 look at the Organise dropdown list, Layout and check the Menu bar option.

i know this is what you are taking about…but for some reason when i click on them to view it goes to wordpad???
i did the menu bar thing but how do you get rid of wordpad…this is becoming a pain for something simple
what do you click on in view??? ;D

My last few sorties have been about simply getting the file extension of all file types displayed in explorer.

The files themselves are what avast uses (not you) to insert the clean notes in the email. So you have to modify avast5.ini as previously mentioned in order for avast to use these files for insertion. The point of showing where the files reside is to ensure that they are present.

think i will leave it alone-who really cares about the incoming and outgoing notes in the emails…thanks for your time and help davidr

See if this fixes your problem .
