Mail Shield scrambles outbound emails.

I have an issue, i have installed Avast on my grandmother and uncles computer, and they both use Outlook Express to send emails. I have remote control access to my grandmothers to help with computer issues and this Avast one is bugging the hell out of everyone she emails.

At the bottom of this post I’ve posted an example email sent by someone and an almost exact copy (omitting their details) of what i receive.

As long as Avast Mail Shield is enabled this happens every time they send anyone an email, Gmail can sometimes fix it and show it to you properly but have the time, no. Soon as the shields disabled it sends emails just fine.

More info: Theres issues because the server requires SSL or TLS (I’ve forgotten) and I’ve added every POP and SMTP server required for email operation (also the IP address just in case) and it still fails sometimes.

Bumping is something i don’t like doing, but this is effecting more then one person.

With gmail at least the SMTP settings need to turn off SSL and let Avast! handle it, use port 587 (or possibly 465 or 25 with Outlook Express). If you are set up properly with Avast!, you can’t send via gmail with Mail Shield disabled since you don’t have SSL access. In addition the figure shows the Mail Shield/Expert Settings /SSL account that Avast! sets up, although again Outlook Express may still use port 465 and SSL. I use Thunderbird, and in the past the settings for OE and TB have been a little different. What do your settings look like?

Image of mail shield settings attached.

A little more information. You mentioned gmail, but that is not part of anything here. Also, which SMTP are you having trouble with or is it both? The port 587 you show might need to be changed to 25 for non-SSL mail sending. What changes do you make to your yahoo.com settings to go out with Mailshield disabled?

Forget about gmail, i shouldn’t have brought it up.

POP: pop.broadband.rogers.com - 110
SMTP: smtp.broadband.rogers.com - 25
No SSL

I just reinstalled for the 3rd time, emails seem to be coming to me to fine without issue for now, will update in a bit if i get anything else.

Before i had uninstalled Avast kept blocking POP and SMTP despite manually setting the addresses in the mail shield.
