Mailserver issue with v5

Hi guys
I have experienced an issue which I think you should be aware of
Win XP Pro - Avast 4.8 TBird 2
Recently Thunderbird started taking FOREVER to send an email, & whilst it was trying to do this, the computer was almost unusable
So I decided to try the new v5 of Avast to see if it was an issue with v4.8
However after installing v5, I was unable to connect to some of my mailservers at all
some worked fine, with some I would get no response at all

I switched back to v4.8 & problem solved - no issue with connection to those servers at all
A couple of weeks ago I wrestled with this same issue on another PC, but at the time I didn’t associate the problem with avast v5, I assumed that it was actually a problem with Tbird v3 - in that case I switched back to TBird v2, but still had the same issue (in the end I gave up & created a gmail account & forwarded the emails from problematic servers)
Now I know that these particular mailservers just won’t work with Avast v5 at all
The message I get is “mailserver responded:” & that’s it

From reading thru the forums, I suspect this is an issue with the reverse dns lookup function in Avast - however, I wasn’t about to reinstall v5 & compare the .ini files to see what the setting difference is between v4.8 & v5
Both installs are default, & nothing else is different
Note - these mailservers fail in both Tbird 3 & 2 when using v5, but work fine in both versions of Tbird using version 4.8

Hi Cahya

Thanks for that info

I’ll have to take a look at the mail shield settings later.
At the moment, it seems to be running fine with version 4.8
(although email sending is slowing down again!)

Thanks again
Mike
