Mailwasher 2.0.28.beta

Hi to all,

Sorry i am a newbie here.
And i am trying to find out why my Mailwasher program, will not work with the latest update from Avast. My computer is Windows XP Home SR2 (all updates installed), Avast build version Nov2004 (4.5.549), Mailwasher version 2.0.28.beta.
Both programs worked ok, before i updated with the latest updates from Avast, including a new program download. Also, i cannot get my Outlook Express mail to work at all with Avast running either.

Mailwasher error message:

“The server is not responding appropriatly, ensure that you have entered the address of a POP server. The connection to the server was reset, please check your internet connection”

Outlook Express error message:

The server responded with an error. Account: ‘***********’, Server: ‘pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 216.136.173.10 (216.136.173.10:110), connect error 10061’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Can anyone help please, as to collect my mail i have to disable Avast.

Hi to all,

Firstly please let me apologise to all the staff at Avast Anti-Virus.
As i have found out what was causing the problem…

Norton Internet Security 2002… ???

I found this out by accident, as i tried to change loads of things in both Mailwasher and Avast, to try to sort this problem out.

By working on the principle that the last thing changed/installed/amended broke it…

This is why i was thinking of the Avast program, because of the update, but i have found that somehow Norton was blocking the connection for my POP mail account. And in desperation, i disabled Norton from running in the background, and then checked my mail account with Avast running. (fully expecting it to fail) But, it went through ok, and i could check my mail in both Mailwasher and Outlook Express, so from that i removed the Mailwasher and Avast E-Mail Scanner Rules from Norton. I then re-checked my mail again with both programs, set up new rules for them. And it started working again as before the Avast update, with the mail protection in place, firewall in place and my mail getting through.

Sorry for being so quick to judge the Avast program, that is why i have posted back here about the result. And to show that something else, somehow changed the Norton settings and thereby blocked my POP mail connections.

Many thanks.

Gary

Gary, thanks for letting us know. It’s good to hear that some problems solve by them selves.

Have a good day,
Lukas.
