major firewall problem!

I use AOL software to connect to the internet.

I`ve always used zone alrm and it has never caused any problems but yesterday I felt like a change and decided to try another firewall.

So I unistalled zone alarm and installed Kerio. But Kerio won`t let AOL connect to the internet, even though I allowed it full access.

I removed Kerio and tried sygate, same problem as kerio, won`t allow AOL access.

I removed sygate and tried Outpost, same problem as kerio and sygate. Even though I gave AOL full access, it still won`t let AOL connect.

Zone alarm has always allowed AOL to connect so I tried to install zone alarm again and every time it says “zone alarm has encountered a error and needs to close”.

What should I do now? Does anyone know of any other good/decent firewalls?

Kerio, sygate and outpost are useless on my computer, so I need something else!

I want a free firewall!

Any recommendations would be welcome!

Looks like ZA has something left there.
Delete ALL za files/folders and clean the registry.
Reboot and the problem should have been solved.

Hi eddy!

I deleted all the zone alarm files/folders.

I also deleted the zone alarm entries in the registry-I restarted the computer.

When I install zone alarm I get the same error message as before.

Outpost firewall still won`t let me connect to AOL :frowning:

There must be something left somewhere.
Find a good registry cleaner.

how about Jetico Firewall? anyone want to comment about this free firewall?

Hi microsoft firewall along with microsoft antispy should allow AOL in.

Well I use AOL and it comes with free McAfee firewall, they work well together…

Hey try the CCleaner, it help me alot when I still had a bits of Sygate files in my computer (recommend try using the Cleaner and the Issues but for the Issues, they’ll ask you if you want to make a back-up, make a back-up anyways just in case  :

http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

(It’s a free download)

Also I suggest that if you enjoy having Zone Alarm in the first place, just stick to it. ;D

Still can`t get zone alarm to download, so i decided to install:

“Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition”

I noticed that with zone alarm now gone from my computer, my internet speed has slightly improved!

I wonder other people experience a improvement in internet speed when they switch from zone alarm to another firewall?

Zone Alarm can be a little heavy on system resources also. It probably has more functions, ad blocking, etc. so this may have an effect on browsing but I wouldn’t have thought it would be that noticeable as you are on dial-up aren’t you?

I am on DSL!

I gave up on dial up about 1 year ago!

If only I could give up dial-up, too much string between the two tin cans to get it (too far from the exchange) a reliable fast connection.
