Avast version 25.4.10068a has MAJOR slowdown issues on Win10 Dell Laptop in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge
To resolve you must disable HTTPS scanning. Found out after replacing both OS, hard drive
and WiFi card!! It caused huge stalling, lockups, reboots and 2 days of major headaches attempting to solve.
Finally figured this out after pausing Avast and problem went away. It acted like a hardware problem and would intermittently go away then come back. Amazon and Facebook were unusable!
To fix this find this in…Settings - Protection - Core Shields - scroll down to Configure Core Shields -
then Web Shields (top menu tab)- Then Deselect HTTPS scanning.
Hope this helps someone else…I want my 2 days back LOL. Go figure…Free user for many years then I pay for upgrade and get burned…bad.
I’m afraid switching off HTTPS scanning is almost as bad as switching off Avast.
Virtually all connections go through HTTPS, so you are vulnerable to malware in the internet.
Edit - One option could be adding an Exclusion for both Amazon and Facebook.
I visit Amazon often and Facebook (not that frequently) and no issues with Avast Free and Firefox browser.
Are you using a VPN ?
No to VPN and YES I’m using Firefox also but other browsers had same issue. Downloads are still safe with file level detection and add blocker stops most of what that would catch. But the issue went well beyond the 2 sites I listed…those were just the worst.
BTW…like I said…never a problem with Free ware version either. No problem on my Win7 Desktop either running 32b version.
I’ll try another update when it comes out and turn it back on if they fix the damn problem.
I am having the same issue. Some sites let me on fine, others, like Facebook, partially load or freeze up. I’m glad I’m not the only one having this problem. Hopefully they will fix it with the next download.
