Mal URL Blocked Question

Hey,

I was looking through my Yahoo mail and clicked on the spam folder. Upon opening the spam folder, I received a notification by Avast saying that something had been blocked. I am genuinely confused as I didn’t click on any email. I also run Adblock Edge and NoScript so theoretically, nothing should have gotten through to the point that Avast needed to take action.

I tested this three times and all three times Avast blocked something. Then I deleted my spam folder and tried again and nothing was found. This is what the network shield reported (I don’t know how to make a link unclickable so I inserted a space after //):

21.12.2014 14:34:16 Network Shield: blocked access to malicious site http:// 35408040.special-notice2992.com/c.php?aid=259&lid=8268 ([67.159.200.132]:80) [ C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe ( 3420 ) ]

Being genuinely scared, I ran the link through Virustotal but it came out clean: https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/c0b27e922c3901b560f16cbb933d94672b344bf796973844229e6dcf24089318/analysis/1419203012/

I also scanned my system with ADWcleaner, Bitdefender Adware Removal Tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Hitman Pro and they all came back clean. I am in the process of running a scan with Avast too.

Can anybody give me an explanation as to what happened? Is this the result of a potential security flaw in Yahoo mail?

probably just some crap in those spam mails … and if avast blocked, nothing to worry about

Yep, I’m paranoid. Even though I trust Avast to block everything that gets past me, I can never be too sure :stuck_out_tongue:
