This is my first time on the forum which shows how well Avast has been working for many years but today I have this pop up window from Avast saying Malicious URL blocked. It comes up each time I am on a website including this forum and when I get details this is what it gives “avast! blocked the virus:http://toolbarservice.freecause.com/2.6/?action”.
On the same window Avast offers me an upgrade so if I am cynical I can think that they are trying to get me off the free version and it is driving me so crazy it is tempting if that was a solution! I am using Firefox and have the most recent version.
I have goggled this problem and run Malwarebytes and I cleaned out mostly adware it found, started the computer etc.
Any ideas much appreciated. This red pop up comes up every minute or so.
No need to upgrade as soon as a new version is released. You can keep as free forever if that is what you wish to do, and upgrade to version 7.0.1473 free after this toolbar issue is resolved.
my system has also started doing this just tonight, although it happens a lot more frequently than once a minute
I have run adwcleaner and MBAM as they are they only ones I run as well as registry mechanic, I have also done a system restore so far without any results
I hope someone can help as otherwise I will have to uninstall what has been a great little program and get a new one and if anyone has any clues I would be grateful I will also add the logs from these programs tomorrow if anyone can tell me if you need them all or one or whatever
It is not Avast! that is the problem, but, rather, it is the protection dialog pop-up? At least Avast! is protecting you.
Please follow Asyn’s advice in reply # 1, and start your own thread. Otherwise, the help you are asking for will sometimes get lost if you remain in the OP’s post, and you will feel ignored. Please start your own thread to get the help you need.
EDIT: go to viruses and worms section and look upper right corner and click ‘NEW TOPICS’ button to start.
EDIT2: you can turn off avast! sounds temporarily by clicking settings within the avast gui and going to avast sounds for the pop-ups. Should help.
Hello
Thanks for all the replies/help. It seems to have gone away (hooray!). The adware search did not ask me to reboot and just gave the log, I rebooted with malwarebytes and then got the log. There were a few files left in MWB after I did the thorough scan earlier and as they were not checked for removal I didn’t but did this time. They were PUP… files.
It seems I cannot put the logs in the text (error message saying message too long) and when I attach the logs I get an error message too!
