Malicious URL Blocked Spam Message

I need help stopping the spam whenever I use my browser

We are going to know a lot more if we are to help, what spam (shouldn’t be on a browser) ?

If these are alerts please post the full information on some of the alerts or attach a screenshot of the avast alert window.

If posting URLs in the alert information - Please change the URL from http to hXXp or www to wXw, to break the link and avoid accidental exposure to suspect sites, thanks.

Sure thing, the message examples below switch among them. I have already began following the instructions for “Logs to assist in cleaning malware” and I have attached the two logs and the aswmbr.txt log

Infection Details
URL: hxxp://37.220.36.44/x/
Process: \.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe
Infection: URL:Mal

Infection: URL:Mal

I also use Firefox as my browser, and every time I go to a different site, or even post something on this thread the message pops up.

Thanks again!

OK, not spam as such, but avast is preventing an underlying infection getting worse.

A malware removal specialist has been informed of your topic.

Hi we may need to work outside of windows for this … Do you have a USB of at least 1Gb

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Fix.GIF

:OTL [2012/08/05 10:36:56 | 000,020,480 | ---- | C] (Microsoft Corporation) -- C:\Windows\svchost.exe

:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

[*]Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSFront.JPG

[*]Then click on Change parameters.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSConfig.JPG

[*]Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.

[*]Click the Start Scan button.

[*]If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSFound.JPG

[*]If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
[*]Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

[*]Get the report by selecting Reports

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSEnd.JPG

[*]Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.

Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

FINALLY

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_disclaimer_ENG.png

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

OK I did what you recommended and so far it’s been an hour since I am writing this reply and everything seems fine, no more pop-ups! I have also attached the OTL & Extra Logs, the Kaspersky TDSSKiller Log, and the ComboFix Log. All are saved under ANSI format.

If I have a similar problem again, should I just repeat your instructions or do I have to start over?

Thanks a lot again!

The key word is ‘similar,’ so the same fixes may not be targeting the correct items, so it would be preceded by an analysis phase to identify the items.

Essexboy should be on-line a little later to check your latest logs.

Looks nearly done

Re-run TDSSKiller and when the following appears select delete :

\Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System )

THEN

run farbar service scanner

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/FSS.GIF

Tick “All” options.
Press “Scan”.
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

I Re-ran TDSSKiller and when I deleted the \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System ) a pop-up from Avast said it had blocked a Malware. Then when I was downloading the farbar service scanner, Avast then said it was a very rare program and recommended that I do not complete the download.

I am not sure if Avast is just being oversensitive or should I just ignore?

Thanks again!

I also want to mention that I have still not been getting any spam-like pop-ups as before.

When essexboy comes back online, you will have your answers.

Avast detected the files being moved, and allow the download of FSS it is safe

Ok, I just did the scan for the farbar service scanner and the FSS log is attached in ANSI format.

I already performed the Re-run of TDSSKiller yesterday and told you what happened, so I did not repeat that.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.
