Malicious url detected when using search engine

Evey time I use either yahoo or google and type in the search engine box and hit enter I get the “malicious url blocked” pop up. Everything else works fine and it even does the search for me, but for some reason the pop up keeps appearing. I have not seen it appear any other time, only when I utilize a search engine.

Please help…

What is your default browser ?
Is this on all browsers or just one ?

I use Firefox, but it also happens on IE. It just started yesterday, it has never happened before.

Follow the guide here and attach the logs in your next reply here

any changes to your problem after MBAM removed those files ?

No, pop up still occurs when utilizing the search engine. Thanks.

Here you go try this and check for alerts on completion

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:OTL O4 - HKCU..\Run: [CitrixUpdate] C:\Users\mrbond\AppData\Local\Citrix\CitrixUpdate\Citrixupdt32.exe (The Imaging Source Europe GmbH) [2011/09/11 14:34:51 | 000,111,104 | ---- | C] (The Imaging Source Europe GmbH) -- C:\ProgramData\AppleUpdateService.dll

:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c
C:\Users\mrbond\AppData\Local\Citrix

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Attached is the latest OTL log…

Could you re-run the fix please as it did not appear to take, could you also ensure that run fix is pressed. Once the computer reboots a log should appear could you post that please

Not sure if this makes a difference, but my computer is not automatically rebooting. I am doing it after the run fix scan. Once it reboots I am doing the quick scan and attached is the log.

OK it does not want to go lets use a bigger hammer

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop *

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_disclaimer_ENG.png

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Now I can’t even get on the Internet. I guess firefox and IE were marked for deletion.

Reboot that happens sometimes with combofix - and all will be back to normal

Alright, so here’s the combofix log.

OK that got one now lets take out the other

  1. Close any open browsers.
  2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
Folder:: c:\users\mrbond\AppData\Local\Citrix Registry:: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "CitrixUpdate"=-
Save this as [b]CFScript.txt[/b], in the same location as ComboFix.exe

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exeWhen finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Latest combofix log.

Have the alerts ceased ?

Yeah, I haven’t gotten one. I really appreciate it. Thanks for your time and patience with me.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
