Malicious URL driving me crazy

Avast keeps blocking a malicious URL on my machine, it pops up just about every 10 mins or so and is driving my crazy. I’ve run malwarebytes and Superantispyware and they can’t find anything wrong.
Any help on how to get rid of this would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Thanks Pondus, after running OTL I only got the one log file there was no “extras” log. In addition, the when I ran mswMBR it just returned an error message although I’ve saved and attached the log in case it helps.

Hope essexboy can help, driving me nuts

Hi you still have drivers running from McAfee and AVG 8 on your system - I can remove those if you wish

I see you have run combofix, could you post that log please

The fix doesn’t seem to have worked as the message still keeps popping up. OTL stopped working at some point during the fix and Windows closed the programme, I’m not sure how far it had got. Ran Quick Scan after rebooting and the new log is attached.

Looks like I deleted the combofix log when it didn’t work, do you want me to run it again ?

Would be great if you could get rid of the drivers for Mcafee and Avg

Yes download combofix again - but rename it when you download it to svchost

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop *

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Ran fix but error message is still appearing although perhaps not quite as often, installed combofix and renamed it as instructed to svchost. Ran combofix, log attached, interesting that when finished it had renamed itself to Combofix on the desktop also got a pop up cmd prompt box for c:\administrator but nothing in it.

New logs attached

Hmm this one is a mystery - so lets look elsewhere

Please read carefully and follow these steps.

[*]DownloadTDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
[*]Extract its contents to your desktop.

Not sure but you might have cracked it, TDSSKiller found something and asked me to cure it. I’ve attached the log. Waiting to see if i get a message pop up.

Yes it was a variant of TDL4 one that does not appear that often… Normally combofix will spot them, but it does explain why aswMBR failed to run

Let me know if the alerts return, when you are happy I will remove my tools

You’re an absolute genius, I really appreciate you taking so much time out to help me especially on a Friday night.

I haven’t seen a message pop up yet but I’ll keep an eye on it tomorrow and if nothing else comes up I’ll let you know so that you can close it down.

Once again many thanks !

I’ve monitored the system for the best part of today and haven’t had a recurrence of the error message so looks like its clean. Many thanks essexboy, please feel free to remove your tools and close this thread.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
