Malware - Attempt to Open Blocked Websites

Trend Micro is blocking Unauthorized URL’s. These URL’s have very long and strange names such as kuqcuyqmaggguqum .org.

The log has a bunch of these:
20140213<;>1737<;>TROJ_SPNV.01BC14<;>1<;>1<;>0<;>C:\Windows\TEMP\tmp00005b1f\tmp0008d3e4<;>

Another side effect is that recently, it takes a very long time to open programs. This is particularly annoying when I want to email as an attachment and I have to wait 20 seconds for the email to open.

Maybe youre infected. Follow this guide and attach the requested logs: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Hmm a bit of junk there

Total Files Cleaned = 8,268.00 mb

I can recommend CCleaner or TFC to remove that junk.

AdwCleaner Log

The malware should now be history … Can you confirm that

I ran the cleaner and accepted the defaults.

I am sad to report that the malware is still there.

Is it reporting from the same temp folder location ?

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Combofix Log attached.
programs are opening faster. It’s only been a few minutes but so far no popups.
I’ll try to update you later.

Thank you.

Hmm it took out an ASUS/MS file that I assumed was legit… Methinks I need to follow up on that one

If all is well tomorrow let me know and I will tidy up

Seems to be working OK. The popups are gone. The programs open fast.

The only thing that started was that sometimes, the computer freezes and the hourglass starts going. This can last about a minute. I’ve had this in the past and it seemed connected to when outlook does a send/receive. It only happened a few times so far. I’m archiving some emails to see if that helps but I don’t think that is the problem. Perhaps due to the reindexing that is going on as the cleanup deleted the outlook index.

In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware
