I moved some malware files to the chest and did a virus scan with avast 4.5 (running XP home) and 2 of the 4 malware files were detected on my computer still. I thought the scan would come clean, as the files were supposed to be stored in the chest, but they must still be active in my system. One of them I deleted, but the other malware file nothing could be done, it said “error in repairing” and “error in deleting” the file. When you do virus scans should you turn the resident protection off? Should I disable system restore, if so how do you do it? What should I do with this malware I can’t get rid of? Thanx for any help in advance.
Can’t is not a word to be tossed around, I haven’t been able to delete it so far, because I don’t know how to over come the problem would be more accurate.
Anyway in order to help fully we need more information…
- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)? - What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?
Hi David, all that information is on page 2 of this thread. Also I just ran trend micro nothing was detected. How do I get rid of that malware file?
Where is page 2 ? there are only three posts on this thread and only extends to one page.
You need to keep all information together, we can’t keep switching back and forth to find the information to help. It also causes confusion and duplication of effort, others may already be helping if you have this information on another thread (not another page on the same thread).
