Malware HIMYM.dll!

My computer seems to stutter like every 3 seconds after I play a game too, and it’ll just stutter even when I quit the game, unless I restart…
I am scanning my pc with the anti-malware software and also defragging

here’s the pic of the warning I got when I booted up my pc everytime
just happened like a few days ago

hi MissMoretti,

Could be a malware infection of some sort. HIMYM.DLL is said to be a DirectX related file or library.

Here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Four programs are requested to be used and, also attach the resulting logs produced in your next reply.

  • AswCleaner
  • Malwarebytes
  • OTL
  • aswMBR.exe

NOTE: OTL.txt and OTLExtras.txt should be produced and attached.

Follow all instructions to the dot and you will be started on the road to recovery.

You could upload that file to www.virustotal.com

and post the link to results here…

It should be found here on your system: C:\Windows\system32\HIMYM.DLL

The file is not there, it’s gone
But the stuttering issue is so annoying, my sound also stutters along with the loading…
I’m gonna go to sleep and do it tomorrow. thanks guys.

issue seems to be fixed after uninstall a few programs, defragging and scanning my pc
It fixed the issue where the popup when i take a screenshot for a game on steam, seems to be all related, now it shows
But if the problem still persists I’ll be back

hi,

Glad to hear you’ve resolved your problems.

If you should ever need further assistance on these or other issues, feel free to start another post and link back to this one if appropriate.

Happened again,
that pop up from start up problem persisted but that was it so I ignored it
But now the stuttering just happened again and my computer seems to lag a lot and freeze a lot…
so I’ll try to follow those steps again and reply back tomorrow

Extras.txt didnt’ show up

EDIT:
The HIMYM.dll popup from startup seems to be gone for this current reboot I did cuz my computer froze up…from the stuttering
but there’s still a problem with the lag and taking-10-minute lag and stutters every few seconds

this problem is major, for every stutter, the cpu usage bumps up from 0 to like e 10 percentr and sometimes, tnger the stutter the higher the jukp, one time it jumped from 0 to 100 percent…then went back down
Can anyone give me specific instructions to use ComboFix?
Because now I’m getting WSAStartup failed, or incorrect version of WinSock for utorrent and
Steam.exe (main exception): WSAStartup() for 2.0 returned error code 11003

Hi there you appear to have had zero access at some stage that was not properly cleaned, it seems as though just OTL was used but the svchost file is still infected

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

OTL doesn’t work
it says it cannot open cmd.exe

EDIT:
The stutter might be my hard drive, it might be failing
SMART status BAD, backup and replace

I would heed that and backup your data now… Meanwhile how is the computer behaving

Works fine unless I have tons of things opened up or playing a game, the stutter thing would happen
I bought this just now for backup:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180984445356?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
But for the internal HDD replacement
Would this work good with my Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z motherboard?
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Cache-Desktop-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348959445&sr=8-1&keywords=WD10EZEX

Both good buys by the look of it

That along with a fresh windows install will really speed the beast up ;D

So the hard drive will work rite?
I actually bought this instead of the seagate one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toshiba-Canvio-1-TB-External-5400-RPM-HDTC610XK3B1-Hard-Drive-/190732823081?pt=US_External_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item2c688fea29
So I just have to backup all my important (huge file size) data to the external hdd, then shut down pc, switch hdd to the new one, then put in windows 7 disk and do a fresh rienstall right?

So I just have to backup all my important (huge file size) data to the external hdd, then shut down pc, switch hdd to the new one, then put in windows 7 disk and do a fresh rienstall right?
Thats it windows 7 should also format the drive for you

Alright, you can confirm the HDD will work with my motherboard right? And since it’s a bare drive, will it work since I don’t get any of the cables.

You will need the cable, if you had a SATA drive originally then the old cables should suffice

Well I think I do, since it’s how my old HDD is plugged I guess
Also according to my info(except that the stuttering doesn’t seem to happen anymore…but the smart status bad thing still happens)
The problem is that I NEED to get a new hdd right?

EDIT: this was what I got on defraggler
